ECO-SCHOOL IN INDRE ET LOIRE – SEPANT

SEPANT is an association whose aim is to preserve the natural environment in Touraine and to act against environmental damage.

The Eco-school network has been developed in France since 2005. There are currently 1,900 schools, colleges and high schools that are committed to eco-responsible operations by integrating environmental education and sustainable development into their teaching.

The school structures are led to concretely implement a project of sustainable development on the scale of the place of life of the establishment and the territory in which it is registered. Several actors must be involved in this project, including the school staff (teachers, administrative staff, maintenance personnel, etc.) and the students. Local associations, such as SEPANT, guide and accompany volunteer schools on the theme of their choice (food, biodiversity, waste, water, energy, solidarity, health or climate). They also help teachers to learn the methodology for setting up a project. Finally, as an association working for environmental education, they propose several animations and accompaniments related to their theme to ensure a complete learning experience for the students.

6 schools were labeled in Indre-et-Loire in 2018-2019 and 26 schools have committed to the Eco-school approach for the 2019-2020 year.

At the end of the school year, schools can apply for Eco-school certification. The relay association drafts an advisory opinion to the Eco-school organization, in which it guarantees the quality of the approach and the integration of all stakeholders in the project.

SEPANT is one of three winners of the 2019 “Sustainable Development and Youth” call for projects.
